Details: Amazon.ca Beatheads beware. While DJ Count Basic serves up a total of seven tracks from studio wunderkinds Kruder & Dorfmeister, stretching out to almost 40 minutes of pleasant remixology, there's little here that hasn't crept up on another compilation by Basic or K&D. On top of that, the Count isn't working with a whole lot of source material. Two of the four original acid-jazz tracks represented here make multiple appearances. "Hide & Seek" creeps up twice, once as a slight but successful mix that strips down the lush R&B production in favor of a slow and funky horn-and-piano loop, and again as a tougher, almost hip-hop take. "Speechless" shows up a whopping three times, once with an emphasis on the original's Twin Peaks-y murk, once with a junglistic injection, and finally (and most successfully) with a watery vocal mix. Nothing's really sub-par here; it's just that nothing really new or revolutionary is happening, either. --Bob Michaels
